Apple is potentially facing a considerable fine and App Store restrictions from the EU following claims of anticompetitive behavior towards music streaming services. The European Commission is expected to reveal more details of its ruling next month.
This issue began when Spotify filed an antitrust complaint in 2019, challenging Apple’s App Store regulations. At the time, these rules prevented app developers from guiding users to cheaper subscription options outside the platform due to the 30% fee Apple charged. Although Apple has since eased these restrictions, the European Commission is likely to conclude that Apple violated antitrust regulations and created unfair trading conditions for its competitors.
