LUMO Labs, a Dutch venture capital fund manager, launched a new €100mn fund called the Rise Fund. The fund is specifically designed to support impact-driven tech startups in Europe that align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Rise Fund will focus on emerging technologies to expand its reach beyond the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, into Scandinavian countries, the Baltic States, Spain, Portugal, and the rest of Europe.

What’s Happening & Why This Matters

The goal of the Rise Fund is to invest in approximately 30 to 35 startups over the next four years. These selected startups will also have access to the LUMO coaching programme, which focuses on maximizing economic value creation while also prioritizing environmental and social impact.

The Rise Fund has already garnered support from various investors and organizations, such as individual investors, family offices, financial institutions, and Dutch regional development agencies like BOM and Oost NL. LUMO Labs, established in 2016 by Andy Lürling and Sven Bakkes, has a track record of investing in 23 impact-driven and deeptech startups, including Alphabeats, Enliven, and Hulo.

According to Lürling, there are a myriad of challenges that startups can address, from urbanization and water scarcity to aging populations and healthcare shortages. He is eager to support entrepreneurs who are ambitious and determined to achieve their company’s goals.
