What’s Happening & Why This Matters

Tesla is adding another market! The Tesla Model Y began first deliveries in Malaysia after a delay from the original Q1 timeline…. Better late than never. This initial group of Model Y units includes all three available variants: the Standard RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD, all of which contain updates that caused the delivery timeline shift earlier this year.

  • The base variant (RM199,000 / $42,500) features a single rear motor accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. Top speed is 217 km/h and a maximum range of 455 km.
  • The mid-spec Long Range AWD model (RM246,000 / $54,500) includes an extra motor on the front axle and uses an NMC type battery. Range increase to 533 km with improved 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.
  • The Model Y Performance AWD model (RM288,000 / $61,500) also uses an NMC type battery. Range is slightly lower at 514 km with 0-100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds. Top speed of 250 km/h.

TF Summary: What’s Next.

The first batch of 70 customers received their cars from the Tesla Malaysia HQ in Cyberjaya. More deliveries are expected to arrive through Q2 2024.
