Sony Considers Faster PC Ports for PlayStation Exclusives

Sony’s president, Hiroki Totoki, recently discussed the possibility of reducing the time between the launches of PlayStation games and their PC ports. He emphasized the company’s focus on “multi-platform” games, specifically on PlayStation and PC, signaling a potential shift in strategy for the gaming giant.

During a post-earnings call Q&A session, Totoki highlighted the need to improve margin performance, particularly by leveraging the success of PlayStation Studios titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War: Ragnarok. He emphasized the potential for growth by releasing these titles on both PlayStation consoles and PCs.

A Shift in Strategy

This approach represents a departure from previous statements by PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst, who previously indicated that PC gamers would have to wait at least a year before seeing first-party PlayStation games on their computers.

The launch of Helldivers 2 on PS5 and Windows simultaneously underscores Sony’s intention to embrace a multi-platform approach. This move led to a surge in the game’s popularity, surpassing other critically acclaimed titles developed by PlayStation Studios.

Potential for Future Releases

While it remains unclear whether future PlayStation tentpole games will launch on PC simultaneously with their console counterparts, there are indications of a strategic shift within Sony. As Hiroki Totoki takes the helm of Sony Interactive Entertainment, we may see further developments in the company’s approach to multi-platform gaming.
