“These tragic cases show real people whose lives were upended or lost when they used technology designed to keep them engaged rather than keep them safe,” Weiss said.

The plaintiffs argue that OpenAI ignored known risks, failed to include mental-health warnings, and lacked emergency intervention mechanisms. Legal experts suggest the suits could set a precedent for AI accountability, forcing tech firms to prove that their models don’t cross into psychological harm.
