Okta’s Dex AI Agent Enhances Employee Support and Identity Security

Okta Inc. is utilizing its Dex AI agent to improve employee support while also testing the company’s advanced identity controls. This initiative follows Okta’s successful achievement of saving over 250,000 employee hours last year, prompting an ambitious target of 1 million hours for the current year.

According to Jenna Cline, Senior Vice President of Technology, Data, and Intelligence at Okta, this escalated goal reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging technology investments effectively. “This year we said, ‘Let’s go big.’ A month for every employee would amount to 1 million hours. This includes significant AI integration and additional automation, as our systems still rely on many deterministic workflows,” Cline noted. “The combination of all those elements led us to establish the 1 million hour target.”

Cline shared insights during a conversation with theCUBE Research’s Krista Case and co-host Rebecca Knight at Okta’s recent Oktane event. They explored the Dex AI agent’s orchestration model, its productivity objectives, and the security measures for identity management within the platform.

Efficiency through Specialized Routing by Dex AI Agent

A key goal for Okta was to avoid the “swivel chair” predicament, which arises when different business teams employ various support agents. The Dex AI agent provides a unified interface for employees, removing the necessity for a single, multi-functional agent to address all tasks. “Dex can call upon the right sub-agent tailored for specific functions,” Cline explained. “This design not only enhances security but also boosts efficiency as each sub-agent excels at particular tasks, whether for the expense management team or the IT help desk.”

By applying its own identity technology to the Dex AI agent, Okta registers the agent in its Universal Directory, enhancing its capabilities as an AI-driven solution for enterprise applications. Cline emphasized that using the Dex AI agent as a testing ground allows Okta to evaluate innovative features in a controlled environment prior to wider release. “We collaborated closely with the product team, who actively incorporated our feedback to strengthen the product,” she stated.
