MazeBolt Technologies Launches RADAR Validation Platform for Akamai Customers

MazeBolt Technologies Ltd., a company specializing in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) testing, has introduced a native deployment of its RADAR validation platform specifically for customers of Akamai Technologies Inc.

This innovation enables enterprises utilizing Akamai’s DDoS protection to conduct continuous testing within hours, all without necessitating service downtime. The launch aims to address configuration gaps that can arise as organizations expand their services, application programming interfaces (APIs), and geographic coverage behind DDoS protection measures.

According to MazeBolt, Akamai setups often go untested against modifications, leaving gaps that could remain undetected until a DDoS attack targets critical elements such as login pages or payment processes. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Matthew Andriani emphasized the urgency for regular testing, noting that conducting tests only a few times a year is insufficient in the current landscape of rapidly evolving AI-driven services and APIs.

Akamai’s own State of the Internet report, released in March, revealed a 104% increase in Layer 7 DDoS attacks over the past two years. The report attributed part of this growth to the development of attack tools utilizing AI, which make web applications and APIs more vulnerable.

RADAR simulates DDoS attacks on Akamai-protected services from within the customer’s own infrastructure. Its comprehensive attack library incorporates both established and new threat vectors, including AI-orchestrated and AI-generated attacks available through MazeBolt’s VectorAI module introduced in June. Initial testing in production environments has shown that approximately 37% of attack vectors can bypass existing protections, based on data collected from early deployments by MazeBolt.

Every testing session concludes with a report that includes remediation recommendations tailored to the specific protection vendor. After each fix is implemented, RADAR re-evaluates the environment to verify the closure of identified gaps. Eyal Rahimi, Vice President of Engineering at MazeBolt, remarked, “Deployed protection is not proven protection,” highlighting the necessity for customers to demonstrate the effectiveness of their mitigations.

A survey conducted by MazeBolt of 300 security leaders last year revealed a concerning trend among financial institutions: 86% reported testing their DDoS defenses once a year or less. Additionally, Akamai found that the average duration of DDoS attacks targeting the financial sector has surged by 738% since 2024, as reported in May.

John Grady, Chief Analyst at Omdia, noted that misconfigurations and outdated security protocols are often at the core of many security incidents, stating, “DDoS is no different. It is a critical area where security teams must ensure protection is current, since successful attacks impact availability and directly affect the bottom line.”

As of today, native Layer 7 support for Akamai environments is available to all RADAR customers. Other mitigation vendors whose products RADAR already tests include Cloudflare Inc., F5 Inc., and Radware Ltd., encompassing a range of scrubbing centers, on-premises equipment, and cloud services.
