Workplace artificial intelligence security startup Harmonic Security Inc. has announced the successful completion of a $50 million funding round aimed at expanding its platform, which governs employee usage of AI tools.
The Harmonic platform scrutinizes all content shared by employees with AI applications prior to submission. Custom small language models analyze each interaction contextually, providing instantaneous feedback. According to Harmonic, the system is specifically designed to identify sensitive information, such as live credentials pasted into chat windows, while allowing acceptable references, like a developer mentioning a database schema.
Initially focused on browser-based applications, Harmonic has broadened its capabilities over the past year to include desktop AI applications and agentic workflows. The company highlights that these applications are primarily where issues arise, such as employees using personal accounts to access AI services.
Co-founder and CEO Alastair Paterson noted that “every board I talk to” is increasingly concerned with whether AI is generating value while also mitigating risks associated with its use. Harmonic addresses these concerns with a Usage Intelligence layer that operates on the same models, enabling leadership to monitor profitable AI use cases down to the individual employee level.
In addition to enhancing its platform, Harmonic has integrated with existing enterprise tools. The Agent Builder, announced by Cisco Systems Inc. at Cisco Live in June, lists Harmonic as an ecosystem partner, facilitating connections through the Model Context Protocol.
A further integration with the Claude Compliance API from Anthropic PBC allows Harmonic to retrieve activity logs from Claude Platform deployments, providing organizations with conversation content from Claude Enterprise deployments.
Harmonic currently serves over 100 customers, including some of the largest enterprises globally, with coverage for millions of employees. The company has also partnered with distribution agencies such as Climb Global Solutions Inc. and Distology Ltd. Its workforce has grown to over 90 employees in the U.S. and the U.K., and the new funding will support additional engineering and marketing hires on both sides of the Atlantic.
This new funding round, led by Crosspoint Capital Partners LP, saw significant interest, resulting in an oversubscribed Series B. Existing investors also participated, following an earlier $17.5 million Series A investment by Next47 in October 2024.
Zach Sivertson, Managing Director at Crosspoint, emphasized that security often hampers the adoption of new technologies. He stated that organizations should not have to relinquish control in order to capitalize on rapid technological advancements. Harmonic provides the necessary visibility for leaders to implement AI solutions more swiftly.
Paterson expressed confidence in the company’s growth trajectory, stating that the funding will accelerate development as the AI landscape evolves. To date, investors have committed a total of $76 million to Harmonic.
