Google Cloud used its Doha summit on 22 September 2026 to make agentic AI the centerpiece of its Gulf strategy. More than 2,000 executives, developers, and partners attended the event at the Qatar National Convention Center, held to celebrate three years since Google opened its cloud region in Qatar. Agentic AI means systems that work through the steps of a task instead of answering a single prompt. “We are doubling down on our services to accommodate this agentic AI era,” Ghassan Kosta, Google Cloud’s regional general manager for Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Iraq, told Euronews.

Alex Rutter, managing director of Google Cloud’s AI business across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, drew the line. Generative AI uses large language models to create “net new content,” he said. Agents go further and work through the steps a task needs.
Demonstrations at the summit showed Gemini Enterprise joining company data with AI so organizations can move from passive “systems of record” to proactive “systems of action.” Google planned its May I/O conference around the same idea, calling it the agentic Gemini era. Kosta tied the pitch to hardware. “In our data centres, to cope with how the technology and how the AI is moving, you need also the right infrastructure in place,” he said.
Qatar’s Test Cases
Qatar supplied the demos. Ooredoo Qatar and Vodafone Qatar use no-code agents to automate parts of internal network management. beIN Media Group applies agents to live broadcast processing, and Aspire Zone Foundation uses them to translate athletic telemetry. The Council of Ministers described a centralized analytics setup with an enterprise data lake for executive reporting. Rutter also praised Al Jazeera‘s applications.
The government tie runs deep. Google Cloud has worked with Qatar for five years and is collaborating with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) on a phase built around agentic AI. MCIT opened an Innovation Lab, iLab, as an AI testing environment for developers and researchers. Sami Mohammed Al Shammari said cloud infrastructure supplies “the foundation to integrate advanced and agentic AI capabilities into core government operations.”
The Oversight Line
Rutter said Google advocates keeping people involved in checking what agents produce. The amount of checking depends on the task and the organization’s tolerance for risk. He expects some workers to manage agents as part of their jobs, though he called the pace hard to predict.

Kosta’s territory includes Bahrain.
