Rocksteady, the developer, has provided detailed information about the initial post-launch plans for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, confirming that The Joker will be added as a playable character in a free content update accompanying the game’s first “season.” In a recent Insider video, Rocksteady revealed that each post-launch season of Suicide Squad will have a different DC character theme, with The Joker being the featured character when Season 1 launches in March. The Joker, an alternate-reality Elseworlds variant imported into the Arkhamverse by Brainiac, will bring unique traversal abilities and weaponry, including a dainty mace and a rocket-powered umbrella for aerial maneuvers.
Season 1 of Suicide Squad will also introduce a new Joker-themed playable environment, two new episodes with fresh missions, activities, and strongholds, new boss fights and enemy variants, new Riddler content, and new DC Villain-themed weapons and gear. Rocksteady has committed to releasing Seasons 2, 3, and 4, each featuring a new playable character and a corresponding playable environment yanked from alternate-reality Elseworlds by Braniac, along with new activities, weapons, gear sets, mid-season updates, and more.
All these updates will be free to all players, and Rocksteady has emphasized that no playable content will be hidden behind Suicide Squad’s seasonal battle pass. The paid in-game shop will only offer cosmetics, such as emotes, rival taunts, outfits, and other cosmetic items. Eurogamer’s Ed Nightingale recently had a hands-on experience with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and expressed some reservations, suggesting that the game, with its live service elements, may be more about trend-chasing than sticking to Rocksteady’s strengths.
