PayPal has introduced a new feature that allows users to send and receive money through shareable one-time links. This update simplifies payments across messaging platforms and gives users more control over how they manage transactions.

What’s Happening & Why This Matters

PayPal’s one-time links allow users to send or request money quickly without needing to exchange personal details like phone numbers or email addresses. These links can be shared via text, direct message, email, or chat app; the process is flexible and convenient.

The links expire after 10 days of inactivity, ensuring that unused requests don’t linger. This rollout starts today in the United States, with availability expanding to the United Kingdom, Italy, and other global markets later this month.

PayPal’s goal is to drive customer acquisition and strengthen its ecosystem by providing a tool that caters to casual users and small businesses alike. This feature streamlines payment collection for sellers, freelancers, and individuals splitting bills or managing group expenses.

Using the feature is straightforward. In the PayPal app, go to the Send/Request tab, select the “send and request money with a link” option, enter the desired amount, and tap Send or Request. PayPal generates a unique link that you can share immediately. You can also include a short note explaining the reason for the payment.

When recipients click the link, they are taken to PayPal’s app or website to complete the payment securely. If the link isn’t used within 10 days, it automatically becomes invalid, protecting users from accidental or fraudulent use.

A Growing Crypto Connection

PayPal also announced that crypto payments are on the horizon. U.S. customers will soon be able to send Bitcoin, Ethereum, PYUSD, and other supported stablecoins through PayPal, Venmo, and various global digital wallets.

This feature aligns with PayPal World, a new interoperability mechanism designed to connect major payment systems and wallets worldwide. When PayPal World launches later this year, it will allow cross-platform payments across partners such as Mercado Pago in Latin America, India’s UPI, Weixin Pay in China, and both PayPal and Venmo.

The features position PayPal as a global payments powerhouse, bridging traditional and digital finance. PayPal’s business remains relevant in the emerging peer-to-peer and crypto payment spaces.

TF Summary: What’s Next

PayPal’s one-time links simplify how money moves between people. Quick links help the company’s reach through messaging apps and social platforms. The addition of crypto capabilities and the upcoming launch of PayPal World are indicative of a strategy designed to dominate both traditional and decentralized payment systems.

MY FORECAST: Due to extensive global adoption, PayPal is a central hub for secure, cross-border transactions, appealing to both individual users and businesses.
