Seattle Plans Data Centre Moratorium — Putting Microsoft and Amazon on Notice
Seattle’s City Council Land Use and Sustainability Committee voted unanimously on 3 June 2026 to advance a one-year moratorium on new large-scale AI data centres consuming more than 20 megawatts. Amazon and Microsoft employees testified in favour of the ban. Over 54,000 resident emails demanded action. The full council votes on 9 June.
