The US government issued an export control directive at 5:21pm ET on 12 June 2026, ordering Anthropic to suspend access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national. Unable to filter users by nationality in real time, Anthropic disabled both models for every customer worldwide — four days after their launch. Claude Opus 4.8 and all other models remain available.
